Comment From Odd - RE: moving and or shaking - Nice post, and you're absolutely right... we must work to live, but that doesn't mean that work must be our life. Dig your posts, dude http://oddthoughtsblog.wordpress.com

Comment From Odd - RE: Dictators Indeed, the least we can do for freedom is pay a little extra for petrol... ... but I wouldn't start celebrating until we see what government replaces those ousted dictators. A fundamentalist islamic state is at least as oppressive as Mubarak ever was (more so for women).... We'll just have to wait and see -Odd http://oddthoughtsblog.wordpress.com

Simon Says - well thats exactly it hey, although i am very impressed with the people for fighting for thier rights, and standing up for their freedom. even though under democratic rule we are still being controlled, just in a different way. check out http://www.jojou.cc and http://www.thinkfreesa.com

Nice post... I love the topic... We don't celebrate good service (when we hunt it down) in this country... which is probably one of the reasons that it is such a rare beast... Go Teboho Tobia!!! /cheer -Odd http://oddthoughtsblog.wordpress.com

Simon Says -me too. the more we can applaud great service, perhaps the more great service we can get. I hope

Comment From Odd - Ode to Heroics

I'm sorry to hear about your wife's extra-legal experience... that's horrible... ...but it is good to hear that some South Africans are willing to stand up... well done whoever you are!! Nice post, cool word, fun quote ^^ -Odd http://oddthoughtsblog.wordpress.com

Simon Says - OK, i will take this as a forum to gripe about the undignified scum that graces our streets with their flagrant dissregard for our rights.

Lol thanks Odd, and well done all the un sung heroes out there.

Comment From Odd - Say What??

Re: Say What?? That is a supremly awesome intro. ^^ and I agree, there is nothing more aggrivating for me as an employee than a lack of communication from my employer. As a business, your employees are your number one resource. Without them, your business doesn't run, you lose all your clients and you make no money, so it would make sense to spend a fair amount of your effort to keep them informed and happy.... ...unfortunately, this is seldom the case. Great post! keep it up! -Odd http://oddthoughtsblog.wordpress.com

Simon Says - Thanks mate. The road to effective communication is indeed a long one. A tedious journey. Keep rocking.

Comment From Odd - Look the Flower, but be the snake beneath

Sorry to hear about your troubles in the work environment. Unfortunately, a psychopathic work style does offer a limited amount of success to people, so some do follow it. But don't be despondent... If you're looking for some inspiration, I'd recommend the TED talk that Richard Branson gave (more of an interview really, which is weird for TED)... It has alot to say about ethical work practices... basically, if you treat people well, they'll treat you well, and in the long term it will give you better results than the knife-in-the-back promotion model... if you can't track it down, let me know... I've got a copy of it. -Odd http://oddthoughtsblog.wordpress.com

Simon Says - Thanks hey, I have found at work that honey catches more flies than vinegar, so ja its definatly better to treat people good, and they return the favour. All the best!

Comment From Odd- Another end - Another Begining

RE: Another end - Another beginning Iron-Man 2 was awesome... though I think TRON might squeeze in at the death and steal it... also: Inception. Can't believe you only read Darkness this year... -it's a fantasy classic... have you read the ones he did with Jamie Wurts(sp?) they're spectacular: Daughter, Mistress and Servant of the Empire. Peace. http://oddthoughtsblog.wordpress.com

Simon Says - Ja dude, I have read The Magician and Silverthorn like a million times, but i just could not get hold of Darkness, thank God for Kalahari.net.

I havent read any of the Jamie Hurts ones, maybe u could hook a brother up, but for now i have to get through book, 6, 7, 8 and 9 of the wheel of time, then its only four more till the end of the dark one, the light burn my eyes.

Ja TRON looks good, Iron Man 3 next year...

Comment from Emily - My anger over the debt trap

trapped" we are indeed and i speak representing the voiceless minority population due to the fact that i too was a victim or should i rather say ignorant culprit? i wonder but my view is we can educate as much as we want but if the little people aren't open to change and knowledge what can the rest of us coconuts do?????? I ask what can we do? it's a vicious cirle

Simon Says - It is vicious, I think the best thing to do is contact debt councilors, or debt consolidators, they can help you restructure your debt repayments etc. Then, avoid debt like the great plaugue.

Comment from Odd - Mind The Gap

It's true... Technology is moving at a massive pace... but I think Microsoft's Kinect (and Sony's offering... can't recall the name at the moment). From the test reports I've heard of Kinect, it's not all that smooth an operation... i'm sure it'll improve, and that we'll get some useful apps for it eventually. If you want to see some truly amasing tech, google "6th sense machine" ... there's also a link in my blog archives somewhere. -Odd http://oddthoughtsblog.blogspot.com

Simon Says - Thanks Odd, Sony’s offering was called the "eye toy" I think, if you check on YouTube, look for "Natal Project", it’s the preamble to Kinect for X-Box.

It looked quite smooth and cool to me, I don’t know what the finished product is like yet. in my opinion, new tech is always tried on gaming platforms first, after that it goes on to be used in weapons, and if all else fails ends up being used for medical applications. But I am just a conspiracy theorist.

Again, thanks for the loyal readership hey.

Comment from Eric Alan Solo - Mind The Gap

I think the current trend of the capitalist global economy to reward upper management more and more and the workers less and less is going to have many unforeseen consequences. I think one of those consequences will be a growing number of people working for themselves, small companies filling "gaps" before the big corporates can. The big companies will then try to buy up the best of those. my 2c :)

Comment from Odd - Customer Service

It is rare to see good customer service in SA... but that makes it all the more thrilling when it does happen. Props for running with it though, we should all make a big deal of getting good service... as most of us just consider it our due, we don't make a point of commending it and so there is no reward for giving good service, and so we don't get it.

Comment from Odd - Strike while the iron is hot

RE: Strike while the Iron is hot, I don't know about the companies winning in a strike. For the period of the strike, they have find and employ other people to do the same jobs... so they have to pay at least as much, often more. But I agree that the employees definately loose out... It's a question of how far they should take the strike action. All the stikes also definately have an impact on the economy, directly (the people aren't working) and indirectly (companies don't want to invest in a country without a reliable workforce). We need a South African Margret Thatcher to sort it all out. Cool blog man!
